ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Covington, Virginia

This position may be eligible for partnership status if certain criteria (PE, etc.) are met.

Reporting to our Site Engineer, this position designs and supports the implementation of capital projects within a plant/mill setting while supporting the mill safety, reliability, and improvement efforts. The candidate should have the ability to manage several projects that span multiple engineering disciplines, with the primary focus on electrical engineering, and will require working with Project and Process Engineers, as well as occasionally Maintenance and Operations personnel.


JOB DUTIES:

  • Prepare electrical schematics for instruments, controls, electrical devices, pumps and motors.
  • Prepare engineering designs, specifications, and technical recommendations necessary to support procurement and construction activities.
  • Effective communication skills. Fluent knowledge of the English language.
  • Coordinate and review vendor equipment, installation and other discipline drawings for operability and maintainability input.
  • Assist in developing capital investment proposals and including detailed design and construction of approved capital projects.
  • Apply technical know-how and analysis to understand complex designs. Collaborate with client project engineer to identify the optimal design solution for various operating problems and for installation of new or modified equipment.
  • Assist with process design activities including equipment sizing, design of PFD’s and P&ID’s, loop sheets, E/I diagrams, process control and instrument specification.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are procured and installed as per Regulatory bodies (OSHA, EPA, NFPA 70 (NEC), ASME, API etc) and client company’s engineering standards and specifications.
  • Ensure project design and implementation abides by mill/plant safety policies.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Requires a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in electrical design for a manufacturing environment. A professional engineer’s license is desired.
  • Experience in pulp and paper or manufacturing industry and exposure to construction services is desired. Desired candidate must be physically capable of climbing a 20 foot ladder and navigating through production equipment.
  • Knowledge of power distribution equipment (switchgear, breakers, capacitors, load sharing) as well as PLC’s and DCS systems and VFD’s (variable frequency drives).
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit and/or 3D modeling desired.
  • Familiar with Feasibility/Front End Loading studies.
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.

BOOKKEEPER/ASSISTANT

Segars Engineering is looking for an energetic and detail-oriented Bookkeeper/Assistant for our Charlottesville, VA office.  Bookkeeping duties will involve inputting business financial information into BillQuick and QuickBooks, invoicing clients on a monthly basis, and producing accurate financial reports.  Some additional administrative responsibilities are described below.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Download project revenue and expense items from our web-based accounting program BillQuick into QuickBooks.
  • Maintain current records on time usage and project expenses.
  • Manage monthly billing according to an established timetable.
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Work with our payroll agency on direct deposit payroll and ledger entries.
  • Handle tax payments, insurance and credential renewals.
  • Perform data entry and administrative duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's in Accounting or related field
  • Previous experience in accounting, finance, or other related fields.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Deadline and detail-oriented.

COMPENSATION:

SALARY:

$40,000 to $45,000 plus bonus, depending on education and experience


CAD Designer

Covington, Virginia

Segars Engineering is seeking a highly motivated CAD Designer to join our interdisciplinary team at our satellite office in Covington, Virginia. Most work will be performed in a field office, with frequent visits to site projects in various stages of design and construction. Typical projects involve steel and concrete infrastructure for industrial manufacturing, with multiple projects, often occurring simultaneously.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports to the Project Manager at a heavy industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Works as the CAD Designer to generate existing and proposed 3D models, construction plans and detail drawings based on company and client standards.
  • Utilizes AutoCAD, Revit or other software platforms (Autodesk software preferred) to model and draft.
  • Maintains and follows company and client standards on drawings to ensure continuity across all projects.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical ability to climb stairs, ladders and navigate equipment platforms.
  • Experience with 3D design software.
  • Experience and ability to work in office and field environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret existing drawings and plan sheets.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must pass a background investigation, including verification of past employment, criminal history, and educational background.
  • Must pass a drug test post-offer.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.


QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED IDEAL (but not required):

  • Familiarity with AISC and ACI steel and concrete codes.
  • Knowledge or experience with structural steel and reinforced concrete detailing.
  • Knowledge or experience in the construction or fabrication industry.
  • Experience with Revit or Inventor software.
